London and SE team sprint their way to success

Okay, maybe it wasn’t exactly a sprint – but a fantastic job nevertheless from the STARK UK team in the Southeast as they raised more than £2,900 for their chosen charity Band of Builders.

Regional directors Mark Bocking and Kris Winters, joined by Billericay Jewson Branch Manager Rhea Pearson and John Welsh and Jay Patel from Tool Hire smashed their way through the pain barrier to complete the Chelmsford half marathon.

The annual race, which took place earlier this month starts in the town centre and passes by some of Chelmsford’s major landmarks (of course, there are some!…) and attracted around 2,000 competitors.

Clocking in a pretty impressive race time of around 1 hour 52 minutes, Mark admitted his legs “were not great” following the race.

“I was limping for a few days,” he admitted.

He has paid tribute to the team, particularly to BM Rhea: “It really was her idea for us to run and I’m really proud of what the guys achieved and the money that has been raised so far.”

“I had a crazy idea one morning to do the London marathon,” she said. ”But, one of my Tool Hire team said that there was a local half-marathon which sounded more realistic.”

“I’m not a runner and everyone I know was like, ’Are you joking?’

“The training was hard, and I struggled over winter – mentally and physically – because it was so cold. I did more gym training on a treadmill, but it’s so different to road running.”

Rhea said the atmosphere helped drive her and her team on, particularly towards the end of the race when muscles were starting to get painful.

“The crowd was amazing, especially near the finish line. I’m so proud of what we’ve done, we’ve raised more than £2,900.”

Rhea gave a shout out to her Tool Hire colleague Jay who not only took part in the race, but whose friends and family donated an incredible £500 to the fundraising effort.
